Everywhere I go all I see is a generation of youths who want to become great people, who want to be in the spotlight. They want success, money and fame in the easiest and fastest way ever and while I greatly commend this attitude, today my attention would be focused on the women folk.
It is truly amazing the rate at which ladies put so much effort in looking good from their hair to toes. No one can accuse God of making them ugly anymore when there are several ways to look beautiful. From the right weave to concealer to foundation to perfectly drawn brows to lipstick to the right accessories, dress, shoes, manicure, pedicure, glowing skin and fragrance, women have reinforced the essence of beauty and looking good and if you agree with me some people spend close to three hours getting ready to go to a church, wedding or club.
While most of us say we do this to "look good for ourselves" I would like to add that this perspective has shifted slightly in recent times. Usually we do these things to feel among and not left out so that "others " can admire us, make us friends, date us, make us side chicks or even marry us. While this is partially true, we must realize that all we are is all we've got. No plastic surgery can give us a new soul and while we change and use so many products, there is no beauty product that can change our personality, manner and character. So even if that look gets you the perfect audience, the perfect job, the perfect friend or the perfect husband, remember that it is your manners, character and personality that would determine if you keep that audience, friend, job or husband.
Watch your lifestyle, watch yourself. Are you devoting the same amount of time you spend on body fillers or makeup on working on your personality? Do you still remember how to say please and thank you or do you transfer aggression on everyone? Do you dress to impress or dress to oppress? Do you respect your co-workers, colleagues, friends, boyfriend, husband or do you have your way all the time without caring who you hurt? Do you cater for the needs of others or you seek your own selfish interest?
An adage says the best things in life are free. Looking good will cost you but also make an effort to be the best version of yourself. I believe that is for free.
Remember, beauty is not felt through looks but through character.
All the best.
Fadeke.
