Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Now, another celebrity power couple, Kermit the Frog and longtime love Miss Piggy have announced that they will be splitting up.
Here’s the statement that appears on both Muppets’ Facebook pages & Twitter:
“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will
continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding.”
The former couple's Muppet friends have yet to comment on the split.
Kermit the Frog actually broke the breakup news prior to releasing a joint statement with his ex. While at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Tuesday morning, he said:
"It's a day-by-day, moment-by-moment process. Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically. It can be tough to work with your ex. There will be an official statement released in the press. I don't want to betray anything."
When Miss Piggy appeared onstage—fashionably late, of course—she said:
"I have no problem working with my ex, OK? It's fine. You know what? Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens."
Kermit the Frog also confirmed that he is now dating another pig named Denise. She works in marketing at ABC.
