After walking into the house in the Venice area through an unlocked door, he grabbed the phone from a table top. Instead of just carrying the phone and running away, he accidentally began filming, and shot himself standing in the living room before taking off with the device.
The owner of the phone jejely remotely accessed the video, released it to police, and now with no waste of time, they are on their way to catch the thief.
A woman and two 15 year old girls sleeping in the house at the time of the burglary were unharmed.
